Marshmallows Are Better Roasted!

The kids have been asking and asking to build a fire, ;so about a week ago, we appeased them. Ethan came up with the brilliant idea of roasting marshmallows! I knew I loved that kid, he must take after his mother. Well, actually some things I gladly claim while others I pawn off on their father. It's not fair I know, and poor Brett doesn't have a blog to defend himself with.
Well, anyway, we got this pretty good blaze going, and had a great time roasting our marshmallows. Eliza was not so keen on waiting around for a marshmallow that was too hot to eat, so she just started stealing them from the bag. She probably had about 4 marshmallows before we realized what she was doing. We finally had to hide the bag, and even then she found it. She ended up with around 7 marshmallows in all! A pretty good haul for an almost 2 year old!
A couple of days later, we had Grandma and Grandpa with us for a few days. Over the breakfast table, Bonnie asked why do people get smaller when they get old? Grandpa said something scientific about calcium in your bones, but Ethan really hit the nail on the head. He came up with a brilliant analogy. He asked Bonnie if she remembered when we roasted marshmallows, how the marshmallows were hard and stiff before we put them over the fire? Well, that is like our bodies when we are young, and then when we get older, it is like putting marshmallows over the flame. We become soft and mushy on the inside, and a little crinkly and brown on the outside. Wow! I think that kid had a future in psychology! I'm so proud. And Grandma and Grandpa were so flattered by the comparison!
